BSS Equips Bahrain TV’s New OB Vans with Lawo VSM Control and Audio Consoles

Manama, Bahrain — February 1, 2021

BSS – Broadcast & Studio Solutions, a leading broadcast and professional AV system integrator in the Middle East, proudly announces the successful completion of a major broadcast integration project for Bahrain TV, under the Ministry of Information Affairs (MIA).

The project involved the design, engineering, and integration of two newly built medium-sized Outside Broadcast (OB) vans, each equipped with IP-based audio and control systems from Lawo, a global leader in broadcast technology.

This milestone project is part of Bahrain’s ongoing TV modernization strategy, aimed at upgrading its live production and mobile broadcasting infrastructure to meet international standards for quality, reliability, and scalability.

IP-Driven Control with Lawo VSM

Both OB vans feature Lawo’s VSM (Virtual Studio Manager) — a powerful IP broadcast control and workflow management platform.

The system, based on a redundant VSM server architecture, enables operators to manage complex production environments through custom GUIs, hardware LCD button panels, and software-based control clients.

Key VSM components include:

  • vsmSTUDIO software for runtime configuration

  • GPIO interfaces and SmartHubs for flexible signal conversion

  • UMDs for dynamic labeling

  • vSNMP editor tool for real-time system monitoring

This scalable control backbone provides centralized workflow management, allowing Bahrain TV to streamline operations and achieve greater efficiency, flexibility, and control across all live production tasks.

World-Class Audio Production Infrastructure

The larger OB van is equipped with a 48-fader Lawo mc²56 audio production console, featuring:

  • 384 DSP channels

  • 5120×5120 routing matrix

  • Local and remote I/O via mc² Compact I/O system

The second, compact OB van integrates a 24-fader Lawo mc²36 console, offering 192 DSP channels and a 512×512 matrix — delivering full functionality for smaller-scale productions without compromising audio quality.

Together, these Lawo systems provide premium sound engineeringIP-based flexibility, and reliable performancetailored to Bahrain TV’s demanding production workflows.

Successful Delivery and Handover

The project commenced on January 1, 2021, with on-site installation and system integration completed by mid-January.
The official handover ceremony took place on February 1, 2021, attended by senior representatives from both the Ministry of Information Affairs and BSS.

“We’re proud to have delivered this project in partnership with Lawo, providing Bahrain TV with modern, IP-based OB solutions that enhance their broadcasting capabilities for years to come,” said Tareq Eid, CEO of BSS Group.
“This project reflects our mission to integrate flexible, high-end broadcast systems that are future-ready and standards-compliant.”
